President Carter told a nationally broadcast news con ference Monday night that "neither I nor any member of my administration has violated any law or committed any impropri ety” in the case of brother Billy’s dealings with Libya. He also stated that he does not plan to release his Democratic delegate majority from pledges to vote for his renomination next week in New York. The Thermal Belt Business and Professional Women's meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Congressman Lamar Gudger will be here Thursday. At 10 a m. he will be at the Tryon High School Library and at 2 p.m. he will be at the courthouse in Columbus. The Any & All Pet Show will be at White Oak Terrace Thursday at 10 a.m. The Polk County Interagency Council will meet Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at The Meeting Place. Tryouts for Tryon Little Continued On Back Page More On Wreck Patrolman David Satterfield investigated the accident Mon day about 9:55a.m. on I-26, which sent 5 to the hospital. The accident took place 2 miles west of Columbus in the eastbound lane. A 1973 Chevrolet Station Wagon was pulling a camper trailer when the trailer swerved and the vehicle went out of control and turned over. The vehicle was a total loss. THURSDAY’S FILM Tnursday night’s film at The Upstairs will be "The Man Who Lies", a comedy drama about a man who arrives in an unidentified village and tries to take the place of a man who has been missing from the home of three women. The film is written and directed by Alain Robbe- Grillet, a contemporary French writer whose novels usually dispense with traditional psycho logy and present man with an inpentrable reality. The public is invited. The Upstairs is located at 117 South Trade St. in Tryon Freak Accident; Lady Shot Mrs. James Fox (Thelma) of Fairview Road, Tryon was in bed watching TV at 12:40 a m. Tuesday when she was struck in the left buttock by a bullet. The house is two floors where the bedroom is located. The bullet w ent threw a glass window before it struck Mrs. Fox. Tryon Police Chief Jerry Ross said that the bullet was apparently a stray shot from somewhere else that hit Mrs. Fox. He said that there had been reports of some shots in the Markham Road area. He stated that with all the trees in the area it seemed almost impossible for a bullet to have missed them before hitting Mrs. Fox. Mrs. Fox was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where she was treated. The Tryon Police and the SBI are continuing their investigation into the shooting. Were There Mr. and Mrs. Jim Watson of Waynesville attended the 15th Reunion of the Polk Central Class of 1965 Saturday. Their names were omitted from the list Willie J. Glenn, Jr. has returned to Philadelphia, Pa. after spending his vacation with his mother, Mrs. D. E. Glenn in Tryon. He is employed at Weston Bank and attends the Tracy Warner School of Design Landrum Boosters Meet Monday The Landrum High School Athletic Booster Club will meet Monday, Aug. 11th at 8 p.m. in the conference room of the Senior High gym. Plans for the Football Jambo ree on Aug. 29th and for the fall athletic season will be discussed. Anyone interested in Landrum High School athletics is invited. Red Fox Tennis The round robin mixed doubles tennis tournament .held last Thursday was won by Gaden Corpening and Luci Little Second were David Livengood and Susanne Engels. In the Men’s Doubles Saturday Mark Boyles and David Liven good defeated David Vining and Bryan Corpening 6-1, 6-3 consolation was won bv Vining and Andy Bayard. nn Mrs. Lou Ella Burk children.
